    Hear from Survivors in Action, Protecting the Protectors (Michael Becker), K-12 Education, and UP End Hate tool kit Working Groups during this session. We'll also discuss the UP End Hate Student Toolkits which equip middle/high school and college students to run their own peer-to-peer campaigns to raise awareness about actionable steps students can take to be upstanders and create safer school communities. With pre-made posters, social media posts, daily announcement scripts, and suggested school-wide activities, the toolkit delivers a ready-made digital “campaign-in-a-box” for students to use immediately.

    Young men in America are in trouble. By just about every metric, men are struggling: levels of depression and suicide are at record highs. So where do men and boys turn? Like everything else – they go online, where they are met by a new generation of male influencers teaching a combination of conspiracy theories and so-called male empowerment. While these hucksters rake in millions, their legions of followers look to them for inspiration and hope. They say they can tell the difference between misogyny and speech designed to shock and amuse, but are America’s young men really equipped to sort the hate from the hyperbole? We went on a mission to find out.

    The focus of this interactive working session is to guide practitioners, researchers, and policymakers through a structured approach to identify, contextualize, and prioritize the risks, dangers, and threats they face when doing work related to extremism, terrorism, armed conflict, crime, and/or other high-risk subjects. This session will provide practical strategies for digital hygiene, information security, travel-specific operational security, and physical safety. Attendees will learn not only what they can do in the immediate to reduce risk and harm, but also 'over the horizon' efforts to better improve safety, security, and privacy.

This interdisciplinary panel brings together leaders from the tech sector, government, and civil society to map the contours of these emerging threats, showcase effective mitigation strategies, and explore the regulatory and human rights frameworks needed to safeguard open societies.     The Pennsylvania Threat Assessment Steering Committee (PA-TASC), led by the Pennsylvania’s Office of Homeland Security, was established to identify and advocate for the implementation of evidence-based behavioral threat assessment and management (BTAM) strategies available to safeguard the citizens of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania from targeted acts of violence. PA-TASC aims to deliver policy and training recommendations on the creation of operational multi-disciplinary BTAM teams throughout the Commonwealth. PA-TASC is comprised of subject matter experts from various state agencies, federal agencies, and private organizations specializing in BTAM. This meeting welcomes practitioners, policymakers, and the public living in Pennsylvania to join us and network with those leading this work in their local communities.
