Barry Koch is an independent consultant and private attorney recognized internationally as an expert in the field of anti-money laundering compliance and risk management. Prior to establishing his current consulting practice, in which he provides expert witness services in money laundering and financial crime cases and advises banks, law firms, government agencies, NGOs, private equity firms, and non-for-profit organizations on the U.S. regulatory landscape in the financial services industry, he served as an Assistant District Attorney in Manhattan.

He is a co-founder of the U.S. and European Bankers Alliances Against Trafficking, which has published investigative “Toolkits” for law enforcement and industry financial intelligence units, and has presented the Financial Footprint of Human Trafficking to legislators, regulators, bankers, NGOs, and law enforcement audiences around the world.

Mr. Koch recently served as a Commissioner on the Financial Sector Commission on Modern Slavery and Human Trafficking (the Liechtenstein Initiative) and is a past Chairman of the Advisory Board of the Association of Certified Financial Crimes Specialists. He is a member of the adjunct faculty at the Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law, where he teaches the Global Corporate Compliance course. He is a board member of several anti-trafficking non-for-profit organizations doing ground-breaking data mining on the Dark Web and pattern analysis of Blockchain transactions related to human trafficking. A former Chairman of The Consular Law Society, Inc., he has held numerous senior Compliance and Legal positions in the financial sector and has represented several financial institutions on FinCEN’s Bank Secrecy Act Advisory Group.
