Chief Administrative Officer, Eradicate Hate Global Summit

Eradicate Hate:
2022, 2023, Current

Chuck Moellenberg is the President of the Eradicate Hate Global Summit, the non-profit charitable organization formed to administer the Summit’s conference and other activities. He also serves as a non-voting director. In his role as President, Chuck is responsible to oversee, evaluate, and advise the Board on all aspects of the corporation’s strategy, finances, and activities, such as implementing the Board’s policies and directives, complying with all laws and regulations, and managing the independent contractors handling production of the conference, financial administration, grant administration, the website, and public relations.

Chuck retired from the law firm of Jones Day at the end of 2021, finishing a 41-year career as a partner handling complex, nationwide product liability and business litigation. Chuck’s practice was at the intersection of law and public policy, involving issues such as climate change, lead paint, and vehicle crashworthiness. Chuck moved to Pittsburgh in 1989 to help start Jones Day’s Pittsburgh Office. He had numerous administrative responsibilities within the Pittsburgh Office, including at times administrative partner, recruiting partner, and litigation coordinator. He also was co-chair of the firmwide initiative regarding autonomous vehicles, artificial intelligence and robotics. Chuck is a member of the American Law Institute and was Vice Chair of the Product Liability Advisory Council. He also served as Board President for PICT Classic Theatre in Pittsburgh and was an adjunct professor at the University of Pittsburgh School of Law. Chuck is an editor of the compendium of human trafficking laws published by Rotary International.

Chuck is a graduate of Denison University (B.A. with highest honors, majoring in International Politics), Princeton University School of International and Public Affairs (M.P.A. in International Politics), and Columbia University School of Law (Law Review and Harlan Fiske Stone Scholar). Before joining Jones Day, Chuck was a judicial law clerk for Chief Judge Frank J. Battisti, United States District Court for the Northern District of Ohio, and Hon. Nathaniel R. Jones, United States Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit.

The effort to eradicate hate requires the active participation of every component of our society, to include governments, the private sector, communities of faith and indeed every aspect of civil society. There is no more urgent task in front of us. The organizers of the Eradicate Hate Global Summit are doing the United States and the world an enormous service by tackling hatred and extremism with a focus on honest dialogue and conversation, genuine learning and practical solutions. This will not happen overnight, but the Pittsburgh community’s leadership in this effort is genuinely inspiring and motivating.
