
Tim Roy

Tim has led the Department of Home Affairs Countering Violent Extremism Branch since July 2021.
Prior to this role, he served as Assistant Director-General responsible for Ministerial, Media and Communications at the Australian Signals Directorate in 2020-21.
Tim has held a number of Australian Government national security and intelligence roles over the last fifteen years, including serving as the National Security Adviser to former federal Attorney-General George Brandis in 2016-17.
Prior to joining the public service, Tim studied and lectured in theology. He has a Bachelor of Theology with Honours from Murdoch University in Western Australia.

The effort to eradicate hate requires the active participation of every component of our society, to include governments, the private sector, communities of faith and indeed every aspect of civil society. There is no more urgent task in front of us. The organizers of the Eradicate Hate Global Summit are doing the United States and the world an enormous service by tackling hatred and extremism with a focus on honest dialogue and conversation, genuine learning and practical solutions. This will not happen overnight, but the Pittsburgh community’s leadership in this effort is genuinely inspiring and motivating.
