Michael King
Director of Research, Organization for the Prevention of Violence
2022, 2023
Michael King held several positions in the field of counterterrorism; most recently as senior research advisor at the Canada Centre for Community Engagement and the Prevention of Violence, housed within Public Safety Canada, where he helped develop the Government of Canada’s National Strategy on Countering Violence Extremism. Previously, Michael has done contract work for community-based NGOs, think tanks, and Canada’s Department of Defense and Ministry of Public Safety. He completed a PhD in social psychology at McGill University, where he researched how individuals legitimize the use of terrorism.
The inaugural Eradicate Hate Summit was a truly impressive gathering of leaders dedicated to finding lasting and effective solutions to violent extremism. I was particularly moved by the prominence given to survivors and family members of victims of hate and violence throughout the event. Their stories and those of so many others must be at the center of what we do and why we do it.
