Eradicate Hate:
2022

Katarzyna Wlodkowska is a reporter and investigative journalist for Gazeta Wyborcza, Poland’s leading liberal newspaper. She made her debut in 2003, her main focus is criminal and social injustice. She has been nominated for Poland’s most important journalism prizes and awarded the prestigious Grand Press in 2017.  In January 2020, she revealed manipulations of the prosecutor’s office in the investigation against the assassin of Paweł Adamowicz. As a result, the same prosecutor’s office initiated another investigation, only this time regarding Katarzyna Włodkowska’s reporting. This decision gathered the attention of international organizations monitoring press freedom, including Reporters Without Borders and Article 19. The following year, at the request of the prosecutor’s office, the court agreed to force Włodkowska to reveal her source. Despite threatened with arrest, she refused to disclose the identity of the informant.

The effort to eradicate hate requires the active participation of every component of our society, to include governments, the private sector, communities of faith and indeed every aspect of civil society. There is no more urgent task in front of us. The organizers of the Eradicate Hate Global Summit are doing the United States and the world an enormous service by tackling hatred and extremism with a focus on honest dialogue and conversation, genuine learning and practical solutions. This will not happen overnight, but the Pittsburgh community’s leadership in this effort is genuinely inspiring and motivating.
