Jennifer Thompkins is proud to serve as the President and CEO of the Greater Urban League of Pittsburgh.
Jennifer has been part of the Urban League Movement for more than eight years. Prior to coming to Pittsburgh, she served as the fifth President and CEO of the Metropolitan Wilmington Urban League (MWUL.) During her tenure, she significantly expanded program reach to meet growing demand in Wilmington and throughout the state of Delaware.
Jennifer has also served as Director and later Senior Director at TriZen, LLC, and has held positions with the Philadelphia YMCA, the World YMCA, and Harvard University.
She earned a Bachelor of Arts in History and Africana Studies from Ursinus College in 2009 and a Master of Theological Studies degree from Harvard University in 2011.
Jennifer’s civic and community involvement includes service with the NAACP, the Greater Philadelphia YMCA, Theist Temple Church of God in Christ (C.O.G.I.C.), and Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated®. She has also held board positions with City Year Philadelphia, the Greater Philadelphia YMCA, and Recognizing Opportunities for Service and Education (R.O.S.E.) Foundation.
In recognition of her leadership, Ursinus College awarded Jennifer the Rising Star Award in 2020, and in 2021 the National Urban League named her an Emerging Leader. In addition, she has received awards from the NAACP, PCEJ C.O.G.I.C. and the state of Delaware.
Jennifer’s work has been featured in Neighbors Magazine, Delaware Business Times, Comcast Changemakers, Delaware Network Television, and National Urban League publications.
In all of her accomplishments, Jennifer holds dear the African proverb:
“Those who learn, teach.”
This cannot be thought of as a conference or a summit. The stakes are simply too high and the data/conversation and methods to drive action more valuable/motivating than any gathering I have attended. I took more than 100 pages of notes and have shared them with my CBS News leadership team, anchors, producers, and correspondents. Nothing about this gathering was easy. The agony around this topic is real. But no one curious about it could ask for a more devoted, rational, or unflinching look into this dark but decipherable world.
