Ian Moss recently joined the Bureau for Counterterrorism as the Deputy Coordinator for Terrorism Prevention and Detention. Ian comes to the Department from the Department of Defense where he served as an attorney with the Military Commissions Defense Organization. He previously served in the Department in a variety of roles, including as a Senior Adviser in the Office of Global Criminal Justice, and as the Chief of Staff to the Special Envoy for Guantanamo Closure. He initially joined the Department of State as a Presidential Management Fellow. Ian also served as the Director for Human Rights and National Security Issues at the National Security Council. Ian is a Marine Corps veteran and served on active duty as a Spanish and Albanian cryptologic linguist. He holds a B.A. in Spanish from the University of Texas at San Antonio, an M.A. in Comparative Politics from Northeastern University, and a J.D. from The George Washington University Law School. Ian is originally from North Carolina.

The Summit unites the public and private sectors, domestic and international, against hate and extremism. Researchers, activists, lawyers, technology experts, political leaders, and more come together, each bringing their unique tools to the fight. Important relationships that were established at the Summit in 2021 have carried forward into working groups with concrete deliverables for 2022 and beyond.
