Donita is an Assistant Attorney General, assigned to the Criminal Enforcement Division of the Illinois Attorney General’s Office and is the Senior Assistant Attorney General of the Law Enforcement Training Bureau. Donita is responsible for the training and continued education of our partners in law enforcement and prosecutor offices.
Donita was a Senior Assistant Attorney General in the Sexually Violent Persons Bureau before transitioning to her current position. In the two decades prior to working at the Illinois Attorney General’s Office, Donita prosecuted a wide variety of crimes ranging from speeding tickets to a triple murder death penalty jury trial. She has extensive experience in investigating, charging, preparing, resolving and trying major and violent crimes. With a focus on the sensitive nature of the investigation and prosecution of sexual assaults, Donita founded “The Treehouse”, a child advocacy center, and helped institute a multi-disciplinary team approach in Southern Indiana. With an audience of prosecutors, law enforcement, social workers and medical professionals, she assisted in ChildFirst® Forensic Interview Trainings: a unique approach to conduct a competent, investigative interview of a child abuse victim.
Donita is currently training on various topics for educating police and prosecutors and medical professionals across the State of Illinois including Recognizing and Reporting Hate Crimes and Hate Incidents, Trauma Informed Victim Centered Approach to Investigations and Prosecution of Sexual Assault, Trauma and the Brain, Firearms Restraining Orders, Crime Gun Connect, Law Enforcement Investigator Sexual Assault Training, and Targeted Violence.

The catalytic power of this Summit in bringing together those who are devoting their lives to pushing back and working to confront, understand and work towards solutions around hate in our society is a noble and difficult task. The Summit not only energized those who attended but led to connecting the dots in a global network of those doing this work. The stories of the victims of hate were painful to witness but their courage in coming forward was inspirational. Those who attended left energized with the hope that by working together solutions can be forged.
