Daniel has been employed by the California Highway Patrol (CHP) as a Peace Officer since 2007. He is currently assigned as an investigator to the Dignitary Protection Section, Threat Assessment Unit (TAU); which he has been a part of since 2019. He has received a Commissioner’s Unit Citation for his work during the 2020 pandemic and lockdowns. Daniel received his BS in Law Enforcement and Justice Administration and Spanish from Western Illinois University. He is a Certified Threat Manager and Department of Homeland Security National Threat Evaluation and Reporting (NTER) Office Master Trainer. Daniel is a CA POST-certified instructor and a part of the instructor cadre for the CHP’s Protection of Public Officials course as well as an Officer Safety Training Instructor. In addition to his work with CHP, Daniel serves as a part of the Instructor Cadre for LSU’s National Center for Biomedical Research and Training. Daniel also serves on the board of the Northern California Chapter of the Association of Threat Assessment Professionals (ATAP) as Treasurer.

The Summit was more than empty words – it made clear that a solution-driven approach is the only way to fight hate. That’s why the working group activities, which are results driven are going to be critical in defeating violent extremism. The Summit brought together the best minds in government, private sector, academia, and civil society. Being surrounded by these experts sparked new ideas – some of which I’ve already implemented or have written about.
