Eradicate Hate:
2021, 2022

Barbara Harding is a nationally recognized trial lawyer and former federal prosecutor who represents clients in complex civil, criminal and bankruptcy litigation involving environmental, product liability, and mass tort issues. She counsels clients in crisis preparedness and response and corporate governance in the chemical, technology, transportation, agriculture and life sciences industries.

Harding served as Deputy Director of the Treasury Department’s White House Security Review. She also served as a prosecutor in the Criminal Section of the Civil Rights Division at the Department of Justice, where she was responsible for the first federal prosecution of crimes involving violence toward Muslims. Harding currently co-chairs Jones Day’s Anti-Hate pro bono initiative which seeks to represent individuals and groups targeted by hate groups and victims of violence motivated by hate. Most recently Jones Day represented and attained judgement for a transgender woman who was the victim of a brutal attack following a traffic accident. In the aftermath of the White Supremacy march in Charlottesville, Virginia, Jones Day also represented Charlottesville City Councilors in a lawsuit involving the Council’s decision to remove Confederate statues from public squares. Harding was an All-American gymnast at the University of Alabama, the first woman to receive the distinguished Paul W. Bryant Alumni Athlete award, and was featured in the SEC’s 75th Anniversary “Stories of Character” celebration.

To me, Eradicate Hate was the most important gathering of 2021 for those of us who work on issues related to domestic extremism and organized hate. The Summit uniquely combined a variety of perspectives, including experts, civil society representatives, politicians and policymakers, and the families and loved ones of victims. Eradicate Hate has the important mission of standing against the rising tide of hate and extremism in our society, and it’s an honor to be able to support this mission.
