Shooting victim is now a leading national voice against escalating gun violence
(Pittsburgh, PA) The Eradicate Hate Global Summit is pleased to announce that former Congresswoman Gabby Giffords will address the Summit in Pittsburgh on Tuesday, October 22.
In 2011, after meeting with constituents in a Tucson, AZ shopping center parking lot, Giffords was shot in the head by a gunman who killed six people and injured 12 others.
Two years later, in 2013, after another tragic mass shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary in Newtown, Connecticut, Giffords turned her own personal tragedy into purpose when she co-founded an organization known as Giffords. Over the past several years, the organization has been a leader in the national gun safety movement, making gun safety a kitchen-table issue for voters.
Giffords has helped gun safety champions win up and down the ballot in local, state, and federal races and worked hard to pass lifesaving legislation in states across the country and at the federal level.
In 2022, Giffords was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom, the nation’s highest civilian honor.
