Pittsburgh-based nonprofit among 208 organizations receiving first batch of awards
Today, Eradicate Hate, a nonprofit dedicated to forging practical solutions to prevent all forms of hate-fueled violence, was awarded a $300,000 grant from OpenAI’s People-First AI Fund. This grant will support Eradicate Hate’s efforts to build safer communities for all through programming such as the annual Eradicate Hate Global Summit and the Prevention Practitioners Network, and will help the nonprofit implement AI functionality into online resources such as the youth-focused UP End Hate initiative and the Reach Out Resource Hub for those impacted by hate-fueled violence or concerned about loved ones.
The People-First AI Fund is a multi-million-dollar investment in community-based nonprofits working to strengthen local communities and expand the opportunity of AI. Through the fund, the OpenAI Foundation will provide $40.5 million in unrestricted grants to 208 nonprofits across the U.S., including Eradicate Hate. Funds will be distributed by the end of 2025.

The grant comes as Eradicate Hate continues to expand its efforts globally. The 5th annual Eradicate Hate Global Summit in Pittsburgh, which took place this September, convened over 1,500 survivors, students, experts, and practitioners from around the world to take a stand against hate-fueled violence and featured a powerful keynote address about political violence from Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro. Eradicate Hate also recently released a National Findings Report for the UP End Hate pilot program, which provided youth ages 12-22 with tools and resources to act as upstanders and prevent hate-fueled violence in their schools and communities.
