Replacing Despair: A Global Awareness Campaign Against Nihilistic Violence

Eradicate Hate was among the first organizations to spotlight nihilistic violence, a growing threat in which vulnerable children are groomed online and coerced into self-harm, sexual exploitation, violence (including school shootings), and suicide. This session will provide an update on the threat profile and highlight the Working Group’s solutions, including public education, juvenile justice engagement, and survivor support. The panel will also address the current gaps and challenges, including definitional disputes, the need for interview-based research, the victim-to-perpetrator progression, and how disciplines outside the traditional extremism field can provide tested strategies for addressing some of these issues.
