How can communities prevent hate-fueled harm before it takes root? This interactive workshop brings together academic, practitioner, and youth-centered approaches to explore evidence-based strategies for primary prevention of hate-motivated violence. Drawing on findings from the Strong Communities project and the Hearing Unheard Moments initiative, attendees will examine how sectors, including education, public safety, health, local government, non-profits, and youth-serving organizations, can strengthen resilience, foster belonging, and address grievances before they become harmful.
Through panel discussions, practical examples, dialogue-based activities, and an interactive visioning exercise, attendees will explore community values, identify barriers to prevention, and develop concrete tools and shared language to create safer, more connected communities where all people, especially young people, feel heard, respected, and included.
