Would you like to help shape a new book on preventing hate-fueled and targeted violence? We are looking for practitioners willing to read a few chapters in advance and discuss them with the author at the Eradicate Hate Global Summit.
Jessica Stern, a longtime scholar of terrorism and political violence, is completing a book, Preventing Public Violence, forthcoming from Harvard University Press. It takes a public health approach to preventing hate-fueled and targeted violence.
Before the manuscript is final, she would like to hear from the practitioners the book is meant to serve. We are convening a working session at the Global Summit for readers who have committed to read a few chapters in advance. The session is a critique, not a talk: her role will be to listen, and yours to tell her where the book is right, where it is wrong, and how to make it appeal to the audiences it is meant to reach.
What participation involves:
- Reading the introduction, one chapter, a list of resources, and the conclusion before the Summit
- Helping ensure the resources page is complete
- Joining a working discussion at the Summit on Sep. 16
- Coming ready to challenge the arguments and share what your own experience teaches
