Eradicate Hate:
2022

Keith Hoffmann is the Chief of the Civil and Community Rights Unit in the Rhode Island Attorney General’s Office. In that role, and as a member of the Attorney General’s Civil Rights Team, he is responsible for a variety of matters including hate crimes enforcement, prosecution of landlords in cases related to child lead poisoning, and various civil rights investigations and actions. He helped to develop and implement Rhode Island’s Hate Crimes and Civil Rights Liaison Officer program, through which every police department in the state has appointed and trained a liaison officer for bias-motivated crimes and incidents.  He also serves on the Rhode Island Commission on Prejudice and Bias and organized the Attorney General’s first Hate Crimes Summit for law enforcement in 2021.

The catalytic power of this Summit in bringing together those who are devoting their lives to pushing back and working to confront, understand and work towards solutions around hate in our society is a noble and difficult task. The Summit not only energized those who attended but led to connecting the dots in a global network of those doing this work. The stories of the victims of hate were painful to witness but their courage in coming forward was inspirational. Those who attended left energized with the hope that by working together solutions can be forged.
