Camille Taylor is an advocate for social justice. As the Co-chair of the Not In Our Town Steering Committee and the Not In Our School Education Committee, she works to fulfill their mission to “Stop hate, address bullying, and create a safe, more inclusive community.”
Camille retired, after teaching 34 years, from the Normal Unit 5 School District. She taught at the elementary and middle school levels (special & regular education, at-risk specialist) and as a counselor at Normal Community High School.
Camille was also a non-tenured track faculty member at Illinois State University (ISU) in the Special Education and Curriculum and Instruction Departments.
She serves on the Board of the YWCA of McLean County, the Co-chair of the Documentation Project and is the Drinks and Dialogue Chair for the League of Women Voters.
Camille was inducted into the ISU College of Education Alumni Hall of Fame in 2006, and into the Division of Student Affairs Steve and Sandi Adams Legacy Hall of Fame in 2019. She has won local, state, and national awards for her work in education, philanthropy, and human and civil rights.
She is Vice President and elder at First Christian Church in Bloomington and is married to Arthur Taylor. They have 3 children & 8 grandchildren.
The effort to eradicate hate requires the active participation of every component of our society, to include governments, the private sector, communities of faith and indeed every aspect of civil society. There is no more urgent task in front of us. The organizers of the Eradicate Hate Global Summit are doing the United States and the world an enormous service by tackling hatred and extremism with a focus on honest dialogue and conversation, genuine learning and practical solutions. This will not happen overnight, but the Pittsburgh community’s leadership in this effort is genuinely inspiring and motivating.
