Emma Cardeli

Ph.D, Attending Psychologist & Research Associate, Trauma & Community Resilience Center, Boston Children’s Hospital, Instructor of Psychology, Harvard Medical School

Dr. Cardeli has over a decade of clinical experience working with trauma-affected children, adolescents, adults, and families from a variety of cultural backgrounds and in a myriad of clinical settings (e.g., community mental health, inpatient psychiatry, emergency services, court clinics, and residential treatment centers). Dr. Cardeli provides training and consultation in trauma-informed care and trauma-focused treatment to agencies across the globe. This includes collaboration on several research and capacity building initiatives focused on improving systems of care so that they better meet the unique needs of women and children returning from formerly ISIS-controlled territories. Through a recent DHS CP3/TVTP grant, Dr. Cardeli and her team at Boston Children’s Hospital are also developing a clinically useful risk assessment and management tool with the goal of improving community-based mental health providers’ understanding of and response to risk for targeted violence and terrorism. Her research focuses on understanding multi-systemic factors contributing to violence perpetration and identifying effective methodologies for strengthening healthcare systems to meet the needs of underserved populations.
