Counsel, Schnader Harrison Segal & Lewis

Timothy K. Lewis, a former federal appeals court judge, is the co-chair of Schnader Harrison Segal & Lewis’s Alternative Dispute Resolution Practice Group and serves as a mediator, arbitrator, settlement counselor, and trial and appellate practitioner.  

Before he entered private practice, Lewis served on the United States District Court for the Western District of Pennsylvania and the United States Court of Appeals for the 3rd Circuit. Prior to his appointment to the federal bench, Lewis was an Assistant United States Attorney and an Assistant District Attorney in Pittsburgh.

Lewis has served on the Boards of the American Arbitration Association, the International Institute for Conflict Prevention and Resolution, The Kiski School, the Imani Christian Academy, the Pittsburgh Children’s Museum, the American Constitution Society for Law and Policy, the Constitution Project, and the National Jazz Museum in Harlem. He is a co-chair of the National Right to Counsel Committee and a member of the American Law Institute, the American Academy of Appellate Lawyers, the College of Commercial Arbitrators, the Pennsylvania Interbranch Commission for Gender, Racial and Ethnic Fairness, the Georgetown University Law Center Supreme Court Institute, and the Duquesne University School of Law Dean’s Advisory Committee.  

Lewis frequently writes and speaks about matters affecting civil rights and the independence of the judiciary.
